At Quady Winery, we make sweet and aperitif wines from varieties and in styles hard to find anywhere else. Today, we produce a number of internationally recognized brands such as Electra Moscato, Vya Vermouth, Starboard, Essensia, Elysium and more. Our trailblazing habit began with Andrew Quady’s first discovery of a little-used patch of Orange Muscat grapes in the small valley town of Madera, California.

In 1980, Andrew made these Orange Muscat grapes into Essensia, a wine unlike any the American wine industry had ever known. Lush and intense, Essensia is the essence of the San Joaquin Valley, a warm and fertile place where orange trees grow next to pistachios, next to almond orchards, next to peaches. Essensia marked the birth of a new kind of winery where the rich flavors of rare muscat varieties are celebrated and intensified rather than blended and softened. Andrew abandoned his day job to focus on the winery while his wife, Laurel, supported the early fragile years.

Under the direction of Michael Blaylock, former Director of Winemaking, and now head winemaker Darin Peterson, Quady Winery has received well over 1,000 awards and medals. Our grapes are grown by a small and intimate network of regional growers whom we’ve considered like family for decades. The dedication and pride of the Quady Winery crew extends to all business practices. The vineyards are sustainably managed and 99% of the byproducts are composted, reused or recycled.
